Church History
Being full of the Holy Spirit, Mark Steven Fossie was lead to start Lion of Judah Missionary Baptist Church. Its original officers were Mark Steven Fossie, President, Robert Stingley, Vice-President, and Sheila Fossie, Secretary. The Church was incorporated in July of 2000. Lion of Judah Missionary Baptist Church held its first worship service on Sunday, August 27 2000 at 3660 North Teutonia Avenue, (lower level) Milwaukee, WI 53206. Lion of Judah became of a part of the Wisconsin Southern Baptist Association. The church started with Pastor Fossie, First Lady Sheila Fossie, Sister Shante Fossie, and Brother Floyd Cross. Lion of Judah quickly grew and Sister Adell Gray, Brother Johnson Banks, Sister Victoria Banks, and Evangelist Sharone Farmer joined the membership.
In 2001, God added on again with Brother L.C. Luckett joining the ministry as the organist. Lion of Judah Missionary Baptist Church moved its location in September 2001 to the Next Door Foundation Educational Building and the Lord again added on to its membership with Brother Larry and Sister JoAnn Moore. Sister Moore invited a co-worker (Dana Cox) to attend a Bible Study one Wednesday and the following Sunday, Sister Cox along with her husband and six children joined the ministry. In August 2001, God lead Pastor Fossie to move the church to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2466 West McKinley Ave., Milwaukee, WI where Lion of Judah Missionary Baptist Church held its services at 12:00 p.m. on Sundays and Bible Study on Wednesday evenings. Several other members joined at this time and the ministry continued to grow and move forward under the direction of the Holy Spirit.
In 2002, Pastor Fossie met with the membership of Lion of Judah Missionary Baptist Church and in agreement with the Holy Spirit decided to discontinue its membership with the Wisconsin Southern Baptist Association. Lion of Judah (Missionary Baptist Church) joined the First Jurisdiction Church Of God In Christ (COGIC) under the leadership of Bishop Sedgwick Daniels. The church name became Lion of Judah Church Of God In Christ (COGIC). The Lord continued to add on to the membership of Lion of Judah with Brother Shawn Cox and shortly after his membership began, his wife and children joined him in the ministry. Several other members began to join the church and Lion of Judah COGIC was active in the jurisdictional functions, mission and activates.
While on a weekend retreat with his wife, Pastor Fossie heard from the Lord to remove the church from Denominational ties and after meeting with its membership Lion of Judah Pentecostal Ministries, Inc., A Non-Denominational Church was birthed into existence. The church name was legally changed and Lion of Judah Pentecostal Ministries, Inc. moved to its present location, with Pastor Joe H. Todd and Sister Erma Todd being its Spiritual Parents.
